EOTO provides one on one tutoring to out of school teens and adults who function at or below eighth grade level academically or who are seeking assistance in preparing for the GED exam.
The key elements of the program are:
A) One-on-one instruction through the use of trained literacy volunteers
B) A commitment on the part of the student to devote a minimum of 5 hours per week to their studies until their educational goal under the program is attained
C) Individualized instruction at the student's pace
D) A curriculum that combines the use of computer software, videos, textbooks and workbooks, and authentic or "real life" materials that the student encounters in their daily life and that reflects their needs and interests
E) Assisting students with workforce development skills, such as typing classes computer classes, life skills classes and referrals to job training programs or employment placement services
F) Assisting students with referrals to other supportive services.
